Union Workhouse, 1838. By L Vulliamy following plan by Kempthorne. Coursed
and squared rubble partially rendered, slate roof with gable ends. Rendered
end stacks and two rendered stacks to front eaves. Y-shaped plan with out-
buildings (partially demolished). West facade has central range of 3 storeys,
5-bays with single storey range to right and C20 range to left. Central
range: sashes with glazing bars throughout. Middle bays of first and second
floors are blind. Central porch. Squared, dressed stone plinth. Right hand
range: brick stack, sash to the left and 2 wooden 3-light casements to the
right. All windows with glazing bars. "RCHM, Dorset, Vol III", HMSO, 1970,
