Altar and railed vault. c1904 to Arthur Frankau, poet.
Polished granite and bronze. Granite altar with pedimented
reredos having a silver mosaic evening star and gold mosaic
sun setting behind an inscribed pale granite plaque with Greek
key border at base. Vault in front of altar with curved
inscribed granite lid having 4 large bronze ring handles and
plinth, with carved ribboned laurel wreath, crowned by a
bronze urn with anthemion relief enrichment and a snake coiled
around the neck and handles ready to attack a winged orb.
Vault surrounded by granite kerb with shaped dies and bronze
railings with anthemion finials, and inscription from
Tennyson. Arthur's son, Gilbert Frankau, novelist, also buried
here.
