TL 15NW COLMWORTH WILDEN ROAD

5/22 Low Farmhouse

Farmhouse, now divided into 2. Early C17 or earlier. Colour washed rough
cast over timber frame. Old clay tile roof. H-plan, difference in roof levels
in central block possibly indicating different building periods. One storey
and attics. Various casements, that to central block ground floor of 4 leaded
lights with moulded wood mullions. Box dormer to central block. 6-panel
door, top pair glazed, to central block next to LH cross-wing. Half-glazed
door to RH cross-wing. 2 red brick double ridge stacks to central block, late
C19 replacements of earlier ones. Interior of RH cross-wing: ground floor
rear room has plaster mouldings to beam and cornice, including frieze of putti
with grapevine. Attic room above this one has Tudor-arched fireplace
surmounted by moulded plaster chimney-piece of Royal arms of James 1, flanked
by thistles and termini caryatids.
