2/251 Engine House
II
Colliery Engine House. 1881. Pennant sandstone. Remains of 2 storey structure
with arched doorway at ground floor and large arched opening above in flat gabled
end; both arches with dressed keystones and quoins, to south side. Remains of
openings elsewhere. No internal structure of roof, no machinery or fittings.
Much overgrown at time of survey (August 1987), this is of significance as a very
rare survival above ground from a formerly extensive coalfield. (Cornwell J.,
Collieries of Kingswood and South Gloucester).
