GV II*

House, now school. Cl7 and C18 with circa 1900 alterations and additions.
Southern block, south front: C18 with circa 1900 alterations. Red brick with
grey headers, ashlar plinth with banded rustication, stone window dressings
and plat bands. Deep moulded wooden eaves cornice to hipped tile roof with 2
stacks. 3 storeys; 9 bays, glazing bar sashes with moulded architraves.
Centre 3 bays slightly projecting. Central first floor tripartite sash with
garlands, keystone and segmental pediment on scrolled brackets; flat hoods
over second and eighth first floor windows. Ground floor windows with key-
stones, and central tripartite sash. 2 storey,one bay addition to left with
plinth and coped parapet. East front: 3 bays. Ground and first floors projec-
ting; ground floor of ashlar with cornice; C20 first floor with plat band at
cill level and coped parapet. West front: 5 bays. Circa 1900 projecting
ground floor, ashlar with cornice and parapet, balustraded above entrance to
right. Recessed porch with 2 Doric columns in antis, and two 5 panelled doors
behind with rectangular fanlight flanked by 2 windows with keystones. North-
eastern block, east front: circa 1900. Red brick with stone dressings, plat
bands, deep moulded wooden eaves cornice to flat roof with one stack. 3 storeys;
5 bays, glazing bar sashes with moulded architraves. 3 storey, 3 bay projection
to left. First floor windows with balustraded balconies and eared architraves,
windows with flat hoods flanking central window with segmental pediment. Wing
projecting at 45 degrees from right hand bays; red brick with grey headers, stone
dressings, parapet and hipped tiled roof. One storey, coupled glazing bar sashes
with architraves, central French casements with Doric doorcase consisting of
half columns supporting segmental pediment with keystone. North-western block,
west front: C18 with circa 1900 alterations. Red brick with stone dressings,
plat band between first and second floors, cornice, coped parapet. Tiled gam-
brel roof with 2 ridge stacks and 4 dormers with segmental pediments. 3 storeys
and attic; 7 bays, glazing bar sashes with architraves. Flat hoods on first
floor windows, small circular windows between second and third and fifth and
sixth bays;on first and second floors. Doorway in second bay from right with
2-panelled door, rectangular fanlight, architrave and flat hood on scrolled
brackets. 2 storey wing projecting to left of brick with plat band, cornice,
coped parapet and hipped roof. Left-hand return wall of 3 bays; glazing bar
sashes with architraves. Interior: mainly Circa 1900, including staircase,
fireplaces and panelling. In 1.4 Lewis Vulliamy worked at Woolhampton House.
