3/116 Forde Grange, The Barn
with attached farmbuildings
to North
GV II*
Barn. Early C16. Rubble walls with stone quoins, dressings and buttresses.
Slate roof with stone coping to West gable. Apex as a small pyramidal base.
Open to roof. Seven bays between the buttress (5) with loopholes. Porches
on North side with buttresses and pitched gables. Dovecote inserted into
East gable wall with square pigeon-holes, possibly C18. Interior: .Raised
full and jointed crucks with chamfered tie-beams and arch-braced collars.
Three sets of Through Purlins. Porch bay has raised jointed crucks and
wind-braces. Wall thickens at 6 feet high to take the raised crucks.
Loopholes splayed on the inside.
Attached cart-shed on North-West, early C19. Rubble walls with brick dressings.
