15/21 Woodbine, Ivy, Rose
and Holly Cottages

GV II

Row of 4 houses. Late C18 or early C19 incorporating some earlier fabric,
Holly Cottage altered C20. Woodbine and Ivy Cottages coursed roughly-squared
stone, with cut tooled dressings; Rose Cottage rubble with cut dressings,
Holly Cottage rubble, rendered and colour-washed. Graduated stone slate
roofs, with some stacks rebuilt in brick.

Front elevation in 3 sections, stepping downhill from left to right. Left
and centre Woodbine and Ivy Cottages, each 2 storeys, 2 bays with central
C20 half-glazed doors and renewed 16-pane sash windows. Woodbine Cottage
has flush stone surrounds to its openings, Ivy Cottage raised stone surrounds
and a sunk panel on the door lintel. 2-storey 2-bay right part comprises
Rose Cottage with C20 door on right and 16-pane sashes, all in stone surrounds,
and Holly Cottage with C20 porch on left and pairs of 12-pane sashes, those
to 1st floor in stone surrounds. Both parts of the row have end stacks.
Woodbine Cottage has a coped left gable on moulded kneelers. Remains of a
C17 fireplace with a massive flat-pointed lintel exposed on left return.

Holly Cottage is included for group value. Rear extensions are not of
interest.
