A C17 timber-framed and plastered house with double jettied upper storeys. 3
storeys. 2 window range, double-hung sashes with margin glazing bars on the
2nd storey and C20 casements on the 1st storey. The jetty to the 2nd storey
has a moulded cornice. The ground storey has a C20 shop which extends on the
north side. Roof tiled. RCHM(31).

No 40 forms a group with Nos 31, 33, 37, 39 on the west side.
