House. Early C16 or earlier with later alterations and C19 rear addition.
Timber framed and plastered with panel pargetting. Red plain tiled roof with
central gabled dormer. Off centre red brick chimney stack with attached
diagonal shafts. Central hall with 2 crosswings, that to right jettied at first
floor level, with curved brackets. 2 storeys and attics. 4 window range of
mainly early C20 iron small paned casements, some in original mullion positions.
C20 red tiled gabled porch with C20 panelled door. Internal features include
much exposed timber framing. Solid tread stairs to attic. Original mullion
window. Crown post roof structure. Chamfered Tudor arch doorhead and 2 half
arches, probably part of another doorhead. Back to back inglenook fireplaces
to ground and first floors. 4 panelled door. Reputed to be one of the hunting
lodges to Hedingham Castle. RCHM 43.
