GV II

Pair of attached cottages. 1835. Red brick in Flemish bond with slate root. 2
square plans with shared stack, facing S. 2 storeys. 2-window range of
original sashes of 20 lights in segmental arches and 2 inserted first-floor
sashes. Entrances in the end walls, with semi-circular, brick arches. Plaque
in right gable inscribed 'H.N.C. 1835', for Henry Holgate Carwardine. With nos.
13 and 15 these form the best group of C19 estate cottages remaining in
Braintree District (item 8/35, q.v.).
