Description

The following building shall be added to the list:-

HIGH STREET, Cherry Hinton TL 45 NE (east side) No 50 21/10003 - II House. Circa early C17, extended and remodelled in circa late C17 or early C18; faced in brick in circa late C19. Timber framed faced in Flemish and stretcher bond gault brick; random bond red brick gable end of rear wing. Asbestos tile roof with gabled ends. Brick axial and gable end stacks. Plan: Original front (W) range is of 3-room plan with central hall and parlour on right (S) heated from back-to-back fireplaces in axial stack and smaller unheated service room at left (N) end. In circa late C17 or early C18 a staircase was inserted into putative entrance lobby in front of axial stack, the service room was divided axially into 2 small rooms and a kitchen wing with a gable end stack was built behind the left (N) service end. In circa late C19 the house was refaced in brick. Exterior: 1 storey and attic. Asymmetrical 3-window west front. C19 4, 6 and 8-pane casements and 2 flush panel doors in cambered brick arch openings. Gabled dormer to left of centre with C19 horizontally sliding sash with glazing bars. Similar dormer at rear to left and gable-ended wing to right with later outbuilding attached. Flush panel door on S side of wing. Interior:Hall has boxed-in axial beam, large fireplace with boxed-in timber lintel and china cupboard with shaped shelves. Parlour (S) has chamfered axial beam with cyma stops, 2-panel door and C20 chimneypiece. Chamfered beams and exposed wall framing in north service rooms. Kitchen has chamfered axial beam with runout stops and large brick fireplace with chamfered timber lintel. Much C17/18 joinery including plank and panel doors, and staircase with square newel and splat balusters. Chambers ceiled but wall-plates, tie-beams in gable ends and wall studding exposed. Clasped purlin roof over rear wing.
