Bank. 1924-5 by H Munro Cautley for Lloyds Bank and sculpture by
Gilbert Seale and Son, London. Portland stone ashlar. Roof
concealed behind parapet. Baroque style. Exterior: 1 storey and
attic. 3-bay front with giant panelled pilasters supporting
entablature with frieze inscribed 'LLOYDS BANK LIMITED', triple
modillions to cornice and 3 attic bays above with panelled
pilasters over which the cornice breaks forward; the centre with
segmental pediment and with stepped parapet above. Between the
giant pilasters on ground floor 2 moulded windows on left with
scroll keyblock and festoons above in carved stone and similar
carved festoon over circular window in left-hand bay with fine
carved stone cartouche below flanked by draped putti set in
recess over doorway with bolection moulded architrave and
panelled double doors. The carving is by Gilbert Seale and Son.
Below the ground floor windows a panelled pedestal with Lloyds
Bank inscribed in frieze above. Metal window frames with margin
glazing bars. Interior: Full-height banking hall with moulded
plaster borders to wall panels with moulded cornice above.
Ceiling cornice with large modillions and moulded plaster borders
to ceiling panels, one glazed for top light.
