School. Mid C18, early and late C19. Coursed squared stone with ashlar
dressings. Graduated stone slate and machine-tile roofs. 4 blocks.
Western block: 2 storeys, 2 bays. Central 4-panel door with stone lintel.
Right-hand bay has C20 casement with an unequally-hung 12-pane sash above,
both have stone lintels and sills. Left-hand bay has tall C19 cross window
with hood-mould. End stacks. Block next to western block: 1 storey, 3
bays. Central gabled porch with 6-panel door under hood-mould and plaque
above inscribed 'This school house was rebuilt and enlarged in the year 1834
by Anne widow of William Danby esquire'. Shaped kneelers and ashlar coping.
Above porch is 2-light mullion window with hood-mould. Outer bays have a
cross-window with hood-mould. All windows have diagonal glazing bars.
Corbelled cornice. Central bay has gablet with shaped kneelers and stone
coping; inset an arched bell opening with bell. Hipped roof. Block next to
eastern block: c1760. 1 storey, 3 bays. Plinth, chamfered quoins. All
windows are arched with stone Gibbs surrounds, sills with brackets.
Continuous impost band. Gothic arched sashes. Central window is taller
than outer windows. Eaves band. Hipped roof with machine tiles. To right
a pedimented porch, doorway now with C20 casement, Gibbs surround. Eastern
block: late C19. 1 storey, 1 bay. Tripartite window with casements, plain
stone surround, sill band with bracket. Cornice, pediment with keyed blind
oculus.
