GV II
Detached house. Early C18. Rendered or painted rubble, some
cob, thatch roof. A symmetrical 3-bay cottage, extended by 2
bays at the W end, possibly incorporating an earlier store or
farm building; the building is set gable-end towards the
stream and lane.
2 storeys, small 2-light wood casements with horizontal
glazing bar and wood sills; in the 2 bays to the left the
ground floor formerly had a wide opening, now with 2
casements. Centred to the right half is a 6-panel door under a
thatched gabled porch. Rendered gable stacks to the original
dwelling unit. The gable to the left has a single light above
2-light casement, and the back has a continuous added lean-to.
INTERIOR: has low ceiling heights, and a large open bressumer
fire with bread oven, and a curing chamber, in the right
gable. Heavy collar roof with single purlin and exposed
principals. The name is taken from the medieval bridge (qv)
immediately to the W.
