House, then shop and office, disused at time of resurvey. C17 with late C19
refronting. Red brick in English garden wall bond; Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys,
2 first-floor windows, with lower bay to left. Main range has on ground floor,
from left, C19 shop front; flush door; 2-pane sash window. First floor: 4-pane
sash windows. Windows have projecting sills and brick shallow segmental arches.
End stack to right. Left bay has matching window on ground floor and ashlar blind
oculus above. Visible through shop window is a very fine C17 ceiling, with a
central lozenge with acorns and oak leaf foliage, within border of grapes and vine
leaves; with pomegranates and vine trail fronds on outside of each corner, and
contemporary simple moulded deep cornice; to rear, late C18 or early C19 turned
baluster staircase. Earlier list description dates ceiling to c1630 and compares
it to similar designs at the Nunnery, Arthington and Headlands Hall, Liversedge.
