Hall house, now large house. C14, mostly re-built late C16; extended C19 and mid C20. Part
timber framed encased in brick; part brick, part English bond and part flemish bond. Old tile
gabled roofs. Originally rectangular plan of 3 framed bays with probable crosswing; now U-plan
with mid C20 extension on north-east gable. 2 storeys, cellar and attics. 4 chimneys. C20
diamond-leaded casement windows. Entrance (west) front: 4 bays with 3 gables. Mostly old brick
with some timber frame exposed in middle gable. Gable on left is irregular with 5 small single-
light windows. Right hand gable projects forward and has one 2-light window on first floor and
projecting gable chimney to right of this with the bottom stage weathered. Second bay: one 2-
light window on first floor, 3-light window below. Middle gable to right of this with a 3-light
window and a 2-light window on first floor; plank entrance door under gabled porch. This gable
appears to have been jettied originally; part of a moulded jetty beam remains. Garden (east)
front: 5 bays, end bays gabled. Chamfered brick plinth, brick string course on left gable and
centre section. One bay gable on left slightly projecting; 3-light windows with mullions and
transoms on each floor, left of centre. C20 garden door on right with segmental head and a plaque
with a shield. Right bay projecting forward with a 3-light window on first floor and 2-light
window on ground floor. Tall chimney on left hand return. Centre section: some timber frame
exposed in slightly recessed section on right of first floor. Three, 2-light windows on first
floor; two 2-light windows and one 3-light widow on ground floor. Interior: C17 panelling and
C17 brick fireplace with chamfered opening in principal bedroom. C17 newel stair from bathroom
adjoining principal bedroom, to attic. Side purlin roof, but collars and mortices in tie beams
remain from the crown posts of a collar purlin roof over the centre section.
