TL 1049 COPLE BEDFORD ROAD

4/31 Dog House

House. early C19. Yellow brick with hipped slate roof. Symmetrical double-
pile plan of 2 storeys, with single storey service wing projecting from rear,
and flat roofed C20 single storey addition, also to rear. Front elevation:
brick pilasters to corners, projecting central bay, deep bracketed eaves.
Ground floor centre has projecting rectangular bay window with 3-light sash to
front and half-columns to corners. The 2 flanking windows and the 3 to first
floor are all sashes under flat arches. All sashes with glazing bars.
Central quadruple ridge stack. Side elevations: ground floor has similar
projecting bay nearest front elevation. Nearest to rear elevation is 6
moulded panel door surmounted by rectangular fanlight, flanked by half-columns
which bend forward without capitals to become brackets for flat hood, a motif
apparently peculiar to the region (Pevsner, p.39 and p.53). First floor has
sashes similar to front.
