adjoining house

G.V. II

Post Office and house, formerly barn, house and byre. Late C17 or early C18
with alterations dated 1804 over entrance. Cement rendered clay walls, house
walls raised in height with brick; Welsh slate roofs, brick chimney stacks.
Single-storey, 3-bay Post Office, formerly barn; 2-storey, 2-bay house with
former single-storey byre to right. C20 shop door in plain painted stone
surround with dated lintel, weathered inscription. 2 C20 shop windows to left.
Plank door in plain stone surround to left. Rear wall has large cart entrance
and clay walls much repaired with brick. Interior has 3 pairs of upper crucks.
House was originally single-storey and parts of the clay wall remain as internal
wall. 2-pane sash windows. C20 window and plank door in former byre.
Interior of byre has one pair of upper crucks. House would have been of cruck
construction also before its alteration. Listed with Solway View for G.V.
