6/31 Garden wall and porches attached
to front of Colan Barton Farmhouse

Garden wall and porches. Early C19, with C20 alterations. Slatestone rubble and
cob. Porch with slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. The walls enclose the
garden to the front of Colan Barton Farmhouse, an area of about 18 metres by 20
metres, with a porch at each side.
At the front right of the house, the wall is attached, about 3 metres high, in cob
with rubble coping. Set in the middle of this range is a Gothic style porch with 2-
centred arched opening on the garden side and on the outer side, with 2-centred
arched wooden door and similar internal arch. Tile wall diminishes in height towards
the front range, which is about l½ metres high with granite coping and a C20 wooden
gate in the middle.
The wall continues along the left side of the garden with a C20 open-fronted porch
with gabled slate roof on wooden posts. Adjoining the left side of the house is a 2-
centred arched doorway.
