Description

ZENNOR
SW 44 SE
1/227 Farm buildings at SW 47284008
-
GV II
Planned group of farm buildings on 3 sides of a courtyard comprising granary over
shippon, flanking fodder houses, further shippon, stables and cartshed and including
courtyard walls and gate piers. Circa 1902. Dressed granite, granite rubble and
reused granite ashlar. Scantle slate roofs with granite coped gable ends with roll-
moulded kneelers.
Plan: U-shaped plan with central 2 storey bank barn with granary or hay store over
shippon flanked by single storey fodder houses in the outer angles with deep single
storey ranges at right angles in front and a high yard wall with central gateway
returning parallel to the front of the barn. The left hand range is a shippon and
the right hand range is probably stables with a cartshed in front with open side
facing away from the courtyard.
Exterior: unaltered elevations; symmetrical 2 storey 2 window front to barn with
central opposing doorways with sliding doors to the first floor (similar doorway into
right hand fodder house); symmetrical 4 window courtyard front to left-hand shippon
with central doorway between 2 symmetrical 2 window fronts and symmetrical 2 window
courtyard front with central doorway to what are probably stables in right-hand
range.
Interior: where inspected has original standings.
Part of an unspoiled coastal hamlet set in the ancient field system of this part of
Cornwall.
