House and shop. Late C18 - early C19, with some C20 alterations. Rendered stone
rubble. Slate-hung and painted at the left side. flipped bitumenised slate roof;
stacks removed.
Plan: House on a corner site, with 3 bays to right facing Broad Street and 2 bays at
the left side facing Union Hill. The main front has the shop inserted at ground
floor; the left side is of one-room plan, with entrance to right.
Exterior: 3 storeys, 1:3 bays. The 3 bays to right are nearly symmetrical with a
bowed front. Ground floor has C20 window to left and shop front to right. The shop
front has 3 plate-glass windows with glazed door set second from right, the door with
overlight. Continuous fascia and cornice on consoles of C19. First floor has two
C19 16-pane sashes in exposed boxes to left and C19 4-pane sash to right. Second
floor has two 12-pane sashes in exposed boxes of early C19 to left and C20 window to
right. The left-hand return is of one bay, with C19 canted bay at ground floor, with
hipped roof and plate-glass windows to left, C19 6-panelled door with overlight to
right. First and second floor to left a C19 16-pane sash in exposed box.
Interior: Not inspected, but may retain features of early C19, such as staircase and
joinery details.
