Farmhouse and house with adjoining barns. Dated on internal lintel R.I.P. 1710
(Robert Priestman) with extensive early C19 alterations. Painted incised stucco
over mixed rubble. Graduated greenslate roof with C19 yellow brick chimney
stacks. 2 storeys, 3 bays with Howbeck Cottage to left of 2 bays under common
roof; lower barn to left and lower right-angled barn to right. Howbeck
Farmhouse has right top-glazed panelled door and sash windows in painted stone
surrounds. Upper floor 3-light stone-mullioned window to left and similar
window below with mullions removed. Barn to right has rubble walls under
graduated greenslate roof. Plank door and loft door above. External stone
steps to further loft door to right. Howbeck Cottage has plank door and
casement windows, one sash window with glazing bars, all in painted stone
surrounds. Barn to left has large plank cart entrance. Panelled door to left
and small casement window above all in stone surrounds. Common rear wall to
both houses has panelled doors, one in chamfered stone surround. Sash windows
and 2 staircase windows with intersecting glazing bars, in round arches with
false keystones, all in painted stone surrounds. Interior of Howbeck Farmhouse
has heck partition and firebeam. Entrance to rear study has stone architrave
with dated lintel.
