LACH DENNIS C.P. HOLMES CHAPEL ROAD SJ 77 SW 2/19 Newhall Farm House - II Farmhouse, mid C17 with early C18 and later alterations. Brown brick in Flemish Bond with slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays with a lower 2 storey l-bay wing at he rear (south-east) which completes an "L" shaped plan. Wide six-panel door in heavy ovolo-moulded frame under segmental arch with turning piece. The door is fronted by a flat, lead-roofed, porch with ogee cornice, which is supported by Tuscan columns and pilasters. Three tripartite sashes ground floor and four sashes first floor all with stone sills, glazing bars, exposed weight boxes and skewback flat arches. Flush stone quoins to east gable, front and rear, with the front quoin stones of the C17 house built in halfway along the gable-end. Stone mullioned windows, to kitchen and room above, remain in the earlier section of the east gable, which is mainly of stretcher bond. The west (added) gable has recessed sashes with stone sills and flat arches. The quoin stones of the south-west corner remain built in at the rear. Ovolo-moulded corbel table at eaves and slender stacks with chamfered corners. Interior: Exposed Cl7 bevelled beams and exposed joists. Inglenook beam, some later unbevelled beams. Many six panel doors. In the Dining Room there is an egg and dart cornice with vine and leaf motif on the ceiling. At first floor level there are some widely spaced timbers in an internal wall also chamfered beams and exposed ceiling joists.
