SJ 68 SE ASTON-BY-BUDWORTH C.P. SACK LANE

3/28 Hawthorn Cottage

G.V. II

Former barn, converted to two cottages in C19 and to one house in C20.
Mid C17. Red English garden wall bond and timber frame with rendered
infill and slate roof. 2 storeys. Entrance front: 4 bays divided by
timber posts. C18 replacement brick infill to first, fourth and fifth
bays from left with close-studding and angle braces to second and
third bays. C20 porch to left of centre. 3-light C20 casement
windows to left and 3 similar windows to right of porch at ground
floor level. 5 similar windows to first floor. C19 outshut to left
hand gable end. Rear elevation: 5 bays of small framing on stone and
brick plinth with rendered brick infill containing variations of 2 x 2
and 3 x 2 cells of small framing. Rendered herringbone infill to 2 x
2 cells at far left. Angle braces to 5th, 6th and 11th upper cells.
Interior: Chamfered beams, close studding to roof trusses.
