Description

NZ 4112 NE YARM HIGH STREET
(west side)

37/641
No 83

GV II

Early-mid C18 house much altered in front. Now roughcast with high pitched swept
roof of Welsh slate. Ridge and end chimneys. Deep bracketed eaves soffit above
two central bays. Two storeys and attic, four windows, wide proportions. Attic
storey windows tripartite casements with glazing bars, cornices and pediments.
Side bays are full height Regency bows around which the entablature continues but
without brackets. Sash windows, those on first floor with glazing bars, curved
on plan and framed by pilasters. Single sashes in centre bays have eared archi-
traves, cornices and pediments. Early C20 glazed, quasi-classical door and sur-
round in third bay. (It is possible that the whole front may be a clever
Edwardian pastiche.) Rainwater head behind; TDR 1729. Long rear extensions
including a stable building now converted into to cottages. Part demolished.
