5/10001 The Old Vicarage

Vicarage, now private house. 1845 by George Gilbert Scott. Flint
cobbles with gault brick dressings. Slate roofs with coped gable
ends. Flint and brick axial and lateral stacks with diagonally
set gault brick shafts. Plan: Overall L-shaped on plan. Principal
rooms in south front range with central stairhall and service
rooms in long rear wing. Exterior: 2 storeys. 1:2 window south
front; left bay in projecting gabled wing. 10-pane sashes with
thick central glazing bars, hoodmoulds and sills, stone canted
bay window ground floor right, small narrow centre first floor
sash. Central doorway in moulded stone architrave with glazed and
panelled door with engraved glass and with wrought-iron doorbell
pull. Small blind loops in gables and moulded stringcourse at
first floor level. At rear projecting gable with tall stair
window, similar fenestration but without hoodmoulds and long,
slightly lower, rear wing also with sash windows and with gabled
wooden porch. Interior: Geometric staircase with cast-iron
balustrade, elliptical arch in hall, panelled doors and moulded
doorcases; chimney pieces said to have been replaced.
