Former Isolation Hospital. Early 1900s to pre-fabricated system by Humphrey's of
Knightsbridge, type 3 of their range published in 1900. Timber frame on brick base clad in
corrugated iron and with pitched corrugated iron roof Single storey, with two wards
reached via external porches either side of kitchen, bathroom, store, washroom and three
asymmetrically placed bedrooms all reached via lobby placed off-centre. Louvres over wards
and single brick stack over kitchen. Fenestration top-opening casements.
Recommended as a model pre-fabricated isolation hospital of type once important in the
treatment of diseases in Britain and the Empire, but of which this is now the best-preserved
example.
