Description

GV II

House. Circa early C19 remodelling of circa late C18 house. Stuccoed walls. Hipped
asbestos slate roofs with hidden central valley, projecting eaves and rendered brick
chimneys over side walls and over rear ridge of cross wall.
Double depth rectangular plan of 2 large reception rooms flanking cross passage left
(probably the original circa late C18/early C19 house) and 2 equal rooms behind.
Cross wall divides this part of house from further 2 rooms wide and deep section on
right.
2 storeys. Regular 5-window south front with original 3-window front at left but
remodelled on left circa 1820's. This part has central doorway with C19 partly
glazed door with marginal panes and overlight and Doric porch with fluted columns and
glyphs to frieze (probably C20 replacement). 12-pane 2-light casement over doorway
and ground and first floor 2-light casements on right. The first floor one has 8
panes per light and may original. To left of doorway is early C19 30-pane bowed sash
with 12-pane horned sash over. Right-hand 2-window part of house, possibly
originally with doorway in position of left-hand window, has C20 windows except for
C19 16-pane hornless sash to first floor right. Small C20 extensions at either end.
Rear has 2-window part to left (east) of cross wall and 4 window part to right
arranged with wider pier to middle. Circa early-mid C19 hornless sashes to first
floor, 3 windows with recessed aprons to ground floor, left, and French windows on
right.
Interior not inspected.
An unusual partial circa early C19 remodelling. Compare No 24 Tregew Rd. qv.
