SW 72 SW MAWGAN-IN-MENEAGE VENTON GANNEL

4/141 No. 1, Venton Gannel

GV II

House. Probably mid-late C18. Painted rubble with cob above, slate sills, wooden
lintels. Wheat reed thatched roof, sweeping lower over rear outshut, with brick
chimneys over gable end stacks, the right hand stack external.
Plan: 2 rooms at the front (now 1 room), kitchen with larger fireplace, left,
parlour right with oven projection; central stair in two-thirds length integral
shallow rear outshut with small service room at either side. (The right hand service
room only partly behind right hand room). Extended at the left (lower) end with a
single storey service room.
Two storeys. Nearly symmetrical 2 window front with nearly central doorway with C20
glazed door; hood over. C20 two light casements to ground floor, old 12-pane 2-
light casements above.
Interior has some old slightly chamfered ceiling cross beams in the left hand part;
axial beams in the right hand part; large fireplaces and original dog-leg stair with
reused balusters from elsewhere. First floor and roof not inspected.
One of two C18 thatched houses together, isolated-in picturesque wooded surroundings.
