3/13 Cottage and Wall at East about 80

Cottage. Late C17 core, C19 alterations. Formerly part of kitchen block to
Stowe, built 1680 for John Grenville, Early of Bath. English bond brick, slate
gabled roof. 2 cell and attic plan. Entrance through C19/early C20 brick porch in
left gable end, further entrance ground floor left. Two 2-light ground floor
windows, 6 panes per light. 1 storey and attic. Roof dormer windows to front and
rear platband to front. Ground floor room left has massive fireplace, partly
blocked, with fireplace beam, 1 ceiling cross beam, partition wall of stud with
brick nogging. Fireplace and Gascoyne map of Stowe made in 1694 suggests that
cottage was part of former kitchen block. Michael Trinick, 'The Great House of
