Farmhouse. Circa early C19. Granite ashlar plinth. Built as a dower house for the
Basset family. Stuccoed walls, slate hipped T-plan roof with projecting eaves to the
front roof.
Plan: L-shaped plan: 2-room-plan garden front plus 2-rooms-deep service wing at
right angles behind the middle and former probable servants accommodation at the
right angles behind the right-hand side. Entrance hall and stair hall between the
garden front and the service wing. Later C19 service wing behind the right-hand room,
parallel to and adjoining the original service wing.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Symmetrical 2-window south-west garden front with no doorway.
Granite ashlar plinth on rubble footings. Original 16-pane hornless sashes. 3-
window north-west elevation of service wing has original 24-pane hornless sash to
stair hall on the right, original 16-pane hornless sash to the first floor left of
the stair and original 20-pane hornless sash at ground floor left. The other 2
sashes are later copies. Overall 3-window south-east entrance front has blind window
to end of garden front, on the left; round-headed doorway with 6-panel door and
original fanlight, left of middle; and on the right a 2-window front with 3 ground
floor windows with openings with pointed arches and blind tympana. Original 16-pane
hornless sash immediately right of doorway and original 16-pane sashs to first floor.
