Description

ST BURYAN
SW 42 SW
8/33 Cottage about 50 metres south-south
- west of Boscawen Rose Farmhouse
II
Small house. Probably late C18 or early C19, extended in C19. Granite rubble with
dressed granite front. Slurried scantle slate roof with gabled ends. Dressed granite
end stacks, the left-hand stack is larger.
Plan: 2-room plan with a central entrance. Each room heated from a gable end stack,
the left-hand room is probably the kitchen. There is a later-C19 single storey
outshut at the back and a C19 outbuilding attached to the left-hand end at right
angles. There is also a small C20 outbuilding attached to the right-hand end.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Nearly symmetrical 3-window south front has 3 symmetrically
disposed late C19 4-pane sashes on the first floor. The ground floor fenestration is
not quite symmetrical: large late C19 6-pane sash to the left and a late C19 2-light
casement to the right with glazing bars. Central doorway with a C19 plank door. All
the ground floor openings have granite lintels, the lintel of the left-hand window is
chamfered and may be earlier reused material. Gable-ended outbuilding projecting at
the left-hand end.
At the rear is a single storey outshut with a grouted scantle slate oof.
Interior was not inspected.
