House now hotel. Late C18 extensively altered and extended in 1902. Skiddaw
slate rubble with sandstone dressings, under graduated greenslate roof with
painted rendered chimney stacks. 2 storeys, 4 bays with additional bays to
right. Studded plank door under slated veranda porch. Flanking projecting bay
windows, that to left canted, both with stone mullions on ground floor and
timber framed casements above. One original upper-floor sash window with
glazing bars to right over enlarged ground-floor window; other 1902 windows have
leaded panes. Ground floor room has Adam-style plaster ceiling. Curved
columned fireplace has flanking inglenook recesses. Some Art Nouveau stained
glass. Wooden staircase carved with vine foliage. Further C20 extensions to
right are not of interest.
