NY 71 NW MURTON BRACKENBER

4/81 Brackenber Farmhouse
& adjoining byres

II

House and byres; 3 builds dated 1698, 1742, and 1874. Coursed, squared rubble
with quoins. Graduated slate roofs with stone mid and end chimneys; stone
coping and kneelers to west end of byres. Former 2-storey, 2-bay house under
same roof as byres; part-glazed door to right has initialled and dated lintel:
I.S. E.S. 1698 (possibly re-used) with sash in stone surround to left and 2
above, all originally mullioned. Byres have 2 doors and 3 windows to ground
floor with dated inscription in moulded frame above: John Spedding 1742.
Taller 2-storey, 2-bay house extension adjoining east end has panels inscribed
J.J.W. and AD 1874. 2 sashes with glazing bars to each floor, with continuous
hoodmould over ground floor. Later byre adjoining east end not included.
