House. Probably late C16 or early C17 with late C17 and later additions. Stone
rubble with ashlar dressings and slate roof. L-plan with rear wing. South
elevation of 2 storeys and 4 bays, and projecting east wing; 3d bay is 2-storey
gabled porch. Coped gables. Windows have label moulds, C19 ashlar surrounds
and C20 casements; paired windows to 1st bay, but porch has 2-light
single-chamfered-mullioned window and 4th bay has small light to ground floor.
Return of east wing has similar paired windows. Entrance to porch has sunk
triangular head and label mould raised over panel of arms said to be of Carlton
Cooper; drip course over 1st floor and corbelled statue of nun; spike finial;
inner entrance has studded door with strap hinges. Signs of blocked openings to
wing which has large gable-end stack. West return has large projecting gable
and stack with set offs. East elevation of 3 bays; north end has dressed
quoins. Ground floor has window in chamfered reveals and horizontally sliding
sash to 1st bay; 3rd bay has C19 sashed window with vertical glazing bars and
horns, and end light. 1st floor has windows with chamfered reveals, that to 2nd
bay narrow, that to 3rd bay with horizontally sliding sash. 2nd bay later
gabled porch entrance to return. Gable-end stacks. Rear has gabled wing with
gable-end stack and some chamfered lights, other windows C19 or C20; lean-to
outshut to east, part with flat roof, sun lounge to west. Later outbuildings
attached to gable end. Interior has 4 upper cruck trusses. Stone winding stair
and a number of doors with studs and strap hinges. Stud and plaster partitions
to 1st floor.
