NZ 2464 SE NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE HOOD STREET (north side) 20/313 12/11/65 Northern Counties Club (formerly listed as Tyne Hotel) G.V. II Houses, then hotel, now club. Circa 1839 for Richard Grainger. Sandstone ashlar; Welsh slate roof. 4 storeys, 9 bays. Rusticated ground floor has renewed double door and overlight in shallow fluted Doric porch. Sash windows in plain reveals have aprons to long first-floor windows, second floor sill band. Floor bands; second-floor entablature with prominent cornice; top floor has eaves band and cornice. Corniced ashlar chimney.
