SOCKBRIDGE AND TIRRIL TIRRIL NY 5026 15/197 Lime Grove and barn adjoining 6.2.68

GV II Farmhouse and barn. Dated and inscribed over entrance: "JOHN & RUTH RITTSON 1765 TO KNOW THEY SELF IS A PROOF OF WISDOM". Painted incised stucco walls with eaves cornice and V-jointed quoins. Graduated greenslate roof with roughcast chimney stacks. Extension and barn have lower walls of squared blocks of calciferous sandstone, the upper parts of bricks, all under graduated greenslate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays with lower left 2-storey, 3-bay extension and right-angled 2-bay barn under common roof. Centre panelled door in stone surround under inscribed panel, flanked by 3-light stone-mullioned windows. Sash windows above in raised painted stone surrounds. Left return wall is slate hung. Right return wall has sash window in painted stone surround. Extension has right C20 door in plain opening under blocked window. Small casement windows in plain reveals. Barn has large flat-headed cart entrance facing the road and a left doorway in stone surround inscribed 1767. Rear of house has round headed staircase window with intersecting glazing bars in head.
