Terrace of 12 houses. c1835 (RCHME). Rendered on brickwork, but Nos 7-10 not rendered, slate roofs. PLAN: except for No.1, on a somewhat grander scale, these are of modest 2-room depth with dogleg stair to the rear, right, and a small gabled service wing. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, attic and basement, each has a single flat-roofed dormer with 12-pane sash above two 12-pane sashes at second floor, and a 2-storey slight bowed oriel with 8:12:8-pane sash and dentil cornices below, left. In No.1 the oriel rises through 3 floors, breaking the cornice line, and with a higher parapet, and No.5 also has a 3-storey oriel, but stopped to the cornice line. Basement windows are 16-pane sashes. To the right of each, except No.1, is an arched doorway with plain fanlight over a reeded transom, and 6-panel doors (No.2 is 2-panel). A continuous plat band at first- and second-floor levels, a moulded cornice, blocking course and coped parapet. Spearhead railings return to the doorways, and a gate opens to stone steps to the basement areas, except to Nos 11 & 12. There are 11 ridge stacks, doubled in size to Nos 1 & 2. The return to the left, to Lennox Street, is 4 windows wide, under a broad flat-topped pediment covering the double roof to central valley. A central arched sash at 3 levels is flanked by blind openings, with a further 12-pane sash to the right, and a continuous cornice below the attic light. A projecting flat-roofed portico covers the doorway, and has a large arched sash with radial bars to the S; the approach to the door is carried on a walkway on square pillars, with a small basement light set-back below. The return at the right end, to William Street, has a plain gable, with one sash at first floor level. The backs, all rendered, are practically unchanged, in 4 storeys and attic, with original dormers, 16-pane sashes, and a tall thin 18-pane sash stair window. Each house retains the small 2-storey gabled service wing. No.1 also has a bowed oriel at first-floor level.

This is externally practically unaltered, and demonstrates the continuing high quality of speculative development in Weymouth at this period. INTERIOR: No.9 has reeded doorcases to stops. The entrance gives to a lobby, with an arch to the dogleg stair opposite, with the first landing flying across the deep sash window. It has stick balusters and swept mahogany handrail on Doric newels. No.8 is similar, with the 2 main ground-floor rooms joined through a wide opening with reeded architraves, but without doors. There are reeded flat cornices and simple fire surrounds. The oriel is panelled in the reveals and below the sill. The original staircases, and many doors with architraves remain in these houses.
