Description

WEYMOUTH

SY6779SE WESLEY STREET 873-1/20/405 (North side) 14/06/74 Nos.6-11 (Consecutive) (Formerly Listed as: WESLEY STREET (North side) Nos.1-11 (Consecutive))

GV II

Terrace of 6 houses. Early C19. Flemish bond brickwork, some painted, some rendered, slate roofs. Each house is in 2 storeys and attic, with 1 window; the original layout, which can still be seen in No.5 (qv), had a 2-light casement flat-roofed dormer above 12-pane sashes in reveals, and to brick voussoirs, with a 6-panel door to the right under a painted-in fanlight in a brick arch on responds. This group retains the original dormer except to No.10, windows have been replaced in non-conforming detail in all but Nos 8 & 9, and doors also replaced. The mid band remains, except to No.10, and the only unpainted brick unit is No.6. A ridge stack to each house. INTERIOR not inspected. Although modified, these modest artisan houses generally retain the original openings; at the time of survey No.6 was being restored to original detail, which could eventually establish the integrity of the terrace if continued in other units.
