Pair of cottages. Probably early C19. Part of the estate village of Sir
William Amcotts Ingilby. Coursed squared gritstone, Westmorland slate roof.
2 storeys; a pair of 1-bay cottages with reflected elevations, 2 bays deep,
in Gothick style. Central paired doors with applied Y-tracery decoration in
4-centred arched surrounds under a continuous square hoodmould. Flat-headed
chamfered mullion windows of three 4-centred arched lights under hoodmoulds
to left and right, ground and first floors. Projecting band at first floor.
Deep eaves to hipped roof. Corniced end stacks with 3 attached octagonal with
flues to Left and right. Sir William rebuilt Ripley village in the style of
the Castle, restored by his father, Sir John (d1815). The 3-light windows
are identical to those in the tower and this pair of cottages is similar to
the Estate cottages on the Main Street (qv).
