HICKLETON HALL
Stable-block to Hickleton Hall including The Stable Cottage and attached walls and gatepiers.

Stable-block now store and house with attached walls and gatepiers. Mid C18. Possibly by James Paine for Godfrey Wentworth of Hickleton Hall, some work by John Billington of Wakefield (Colvin, p111). Ashlar limestone; C20 cement-tile, Westmorland slate and stone slate roofs. U-shaped plan with east side enclosed by walls curving to central gatepiers, additional walls at north-east and south-east corners terminate at gatepiers.
Main (south) front facing Hickleton Hall: two storeys, 1:3:2:3:1 bays, the three-bay parts recessed. Central, round-arched, carriage entrance flanked by semi-domed niches in rectangular recesses; six-pane casements above impost band; pediment. Other bays have sashes with glazing bars to ground floor, continuous impost band and six-pane casements above, windows to bays one, three, eight and ten in round-arched panels. Eaves cornice, hipped roof with ridge stack at each end.
Courtyard: external steps to south-west corner. West side has pedimented central bay. North side has two basket-arched carriage entrances (that to right infilled).
Cottage at north-east corner has attached garden wall and shield of arms on end wall.
Interior: original horse stalls to right of main facade. Later wing to north-west corner not of special interest.
