9/30 The Old School House

GV II

Former school and school house, dated and initialled 'J. M. 1849'
on shield on porch gable to the school room. Coursed squared and
dressed limestone; stone slate roof with ashlar and artificial
stone stacks. 'L'-shaped plan. Single-storey flat-roofed
extension on the east, not of special interest. Two-storey school
house with single-storey school room adjoining at right angles.
Entrance front; gable of school house projects forwards to right
with projecting stone-built gabled porch off-centre left. Similar
porch to the school room. All windows 2-light stone-mullioned
casements with diamond leaded panes. Tudor-arched doorway to
porch to school house now blocked with 2-light casement inserted in
the blocking. Blank shield over the door. Double plank doors,
each with single glass pane to the school room porch. Stepped
coping, roll-cross saddles and triangular kneelers to the porch
gables and to the south facing gable of the school house. Gable-
end and lateral stacks. Interior not inspected.
