House. C17 origins, much modified and extended C18 and C19. Coursed and
squared limestone, stone slate roof. Main block has earlier hipped parallel
block behind, and a narrow gabled wing set forward at right angles to the
right. Two storeys and attic, 2 windows; 3-light recessed chamfer mullion case-
ments to ground floor, to stopped hoods, 2-light to first floor, and a 2-light
C20 hipped dormer. All these with leading. Door, right, in recess. Back has
2-window centre with flush full gable to right with first floor segmental-headed
wood window; others are stone-mullioned casements. Extreme left is a small
gable with stack adjoining a set-back portion. The wing, to right, has, facing
south, a 2-light chamfer mullion casement and various casements to ground floor;
two flush gabled half dormers with 2-light leaded casements. Plain gable to
street. One of the Painswick Mills was formerly Ludlowes Mill, which may
explain the name.
