Large detached house. C.17 and C.19, roof part rebuilt late C.20 after a fire.
Limestone rubble, stone slate or concrete slate roofs. A C.17 L-plan cross-
gabled house to which a new large gabled wing was added in C.19 at north end.
At north end also outbuildings from a small courtyard. Entrance (south-west)
front in two sections: to left in slightly stepped forward section in 2 storeys
2-windowed, ground floor with a 3-light and 2-light stone mullioned casement
beneath two flush 2-light gabled dormers. Centre is deep set plank door under
basket-handle stone lintel. To right is C.17 unit in 2 storeys and attic; at
ground floor 3:2: 3-light stone mullioned casements at first floor a 2-light
and 3-light, and a 2-light in attic to full height gable at right. Far left,
projecting forward is a single storey stone slated outbuilding in 4 bays with
3 square stone pillars, formerly an open shed, now rubble filled, with two 2-light
casements. Hipped end. Return of main block, right, has 2-light to attic, and
single lights, right at ground and first floors. Front facing valley is 3-gabled
plus set-back C.19 block. C.17 section, left, has two storeys and attic with
2 and 3-light stone mullioned casements, and 2-light in return wall. In the
older wing, windows are with hollow mould mullions, stopped drips, and leading.
Third gable, which is later build has 3-light to ground floor, two 2-light at
first floor and 2-light to attic; these chamfer mullion and without hoods. Set
back wing is 2 storeys, with 2 flush gabled 2-light dormers over two 2-light
casements. Ashlar stacks to ridge and gable of C.17 block, and at gable to right,
rear. A large buttress has been added at the left end of valley front. Good
lead hopper-head and down-pipe between gables at this front.

Interior has been considerably modified. Ground floor has mainly stone slab
floors; end room, right, has stopped chamfer beam, C.17 panelling, said to have
been brought from elsewhere, large bressumer fireplace with flanking fluted wood
pilasters. Stair was probably originally to left of fire. Staircase now is
C.20 oak. Centre room has two chamfered beams. Upper room, left, has good C.18
stone fire surround with fluted frieze and moulded mantel shelf; architrave with
bead and reed enrichment; Regency grate.

Attached at north end is a single storey narrow wing with a 2 storey gabled return
outbuilding, including oculus set vertically above garage opening in inserted
oval.
