6/262 Gothic seat, c.150 m
south west of Painswick
House
GV II*
Garden element. c.1750, possibly by Thomas Robins. Large limestone ashlar
block front, rubble back wall, stone slate roof. A 3-bay open loggia with
pointed arches separated by clustered slender colonnettes, the central opening
wider, and with crenellations above a string course, raised in the centre
section. At the back are two raking buttresses. The interior has a rectangular
coved plaster vault; both this and the hipped roof in poor condition at time of
Survey (March 1986). One of a group of garden buildings in an important
surviving rococo ensemble, at the bottom end of a long north-south vista.

no 2).
