4/25 Wall to lower terrace on
south and east sides of
Somerley Park House

GV II

Retaining wall with steps. Brick with stone coping, vases and balustrading. To south
of house, wall runs from change of direction of upper terrace south then runs east
at a distance of 50m from the house, bowing round fountain (with a flight of steps
in the middle of the bow) 30m south-south-east of the picture gallery, the wall turns
north and runs parallel to the east front and on along side of walk, being 120m in
length. Wall has piers at 4m intervals, surmounted by vases. Wide flight of 5
steps having larger vases either side at top. East length of wall surmounted by
balustrade with similar piers and vases.
