Description

SLAPTON SANDS ROAD
SLAPTON
SX8244
12/93 Nos. 1 and 2

II

Pair of cottages, possibly originally one house. Probably C18. Rendered
stone rubble. Thatched roof with gabled ends and rendered stone rubble
gable end stacks with slate weathering, the left hand (east) stack with set-
offs.
Plan: 2 room plan, each room heated from a gable end stack and with front
doorways giving direct access into the room. If it were originally one
house, the doorway would have probably been at the centre giving into a
central cross or through passage.
Exterior: 2 storeys. Not quite symmetrical 2-window north front. Small
C20 2-light casements without glazing bars and with slate sills, left hand
ground floor window has concrete sill. Doorways to left and right of centre
the right hand doorway (No. 2) has C19 glazed and panelled door, the left
hand doorway (No. 1) has C20 glazed door. Rear elevation not inspected.
Interior: Only No. 1 to left was inspected. The ceiling beams have been
replaced with later joists. The roof space was not inspected but the feet
of straight principals were visible in the first floor rooms.
