Description

SY 19 SE SOUTHLEIGH

5/126 Barn and stables approximately 4
- metres north-west of Borcombe
Farmhouse
GV II

Barn and stables. Circa 1850. Local stone and flint rubble with some brick
dressings; slate roof. Threshing barn and stables in the same block which faces
east. The stables are at the left (south) end of the block and have 2 front
doorways each with a small window to left. There is a hayloft loading hatch over
the right stable doorway and there is a window to left of it. The barn to right has
full height opposing double doors onto the threshing floors. Most of the joinery
detail of these doors and windows is original. The roof is gable-ended.
The barn along with Borcombe Farmhouse (q.v) and the Cowhouse (q.v) form a good farm
group in an attractive setting.
