II
Late C19. Red brick, ashlar dressings. Pitched slate roof. Two storeys and attics. String. Polygonal angle turret, corbelled out, with transomed windows and conical roof with finial. Two mullion-and-transomed windows per side on first floor. Three round-arched windows per side on ground floor: moulded impost bands, hoodmoulds. One attic gable on each side, each with crocketed finial and mullioned windows. Front door has pediment over, with coat of arms and "Local Board Offices" in tympanum.
This late C19 local board office was built as a direct consequence of the Education Act of 1870; 32 years later, the Education Act of 1902 abolished the school boards and created new local education authorities. Eventually the office was replaced, and it was sold to become the Yorkshire County Savings Bank; it continued to function as a bank until 1995. Since then it has been operated as a succession of different bars and restaurants
