House, on site of oil mill, c1800 with addition dated 1914, pink brick, black
glazed pantiles to hipped roof. T-shaped, double pile with rear wing, 9
bays, 2 storeys. West facade: in two builds, bays 6-9 C18, bays 1-5 of 1914
to match, 3 drain heads dated 1914, gault brick to base of bays 6-9, stone
parapet with modillions to cornice; recessed sashes with glazing bars under
flat arches, those of 1914 and to 1st floor of bay 6 with single brick
voussoirs, ground floor sashes of 5x3 panes, that to bay 9 dummy; doorway
to bay 6, semi-circular flat canopy with triglyphs and guttae supported by
2 fluted Tuscan columns and 2 fluted pilasters, two semi-circular stone steps,
6 panelled door with flanking margin lights, semi-circular fanlight with
glazing bars, decorative frieze below. Various stacks all with stone string
and caps. South facade of 3 bays: central doorway with semi-circular lead
covered flat canopy suspended by wrought iron hooks with scroll work, soffit
with green man mask and radiating rays, double leaved door glazed with crown
glass, glazing bars, fanlight with delicate curved glazing bars, flanking
pilasters having floral decoration to consoles above to canopy. Full height
canted bays to bays 1 and 3, recessed sashes with glazing bars and flat
arches, 3 to each floor of bays 1 and 3, 1 above doorway. Left hand return
of flint with glazed door and glazing bars to loggia. Loggia to left with
brick columns in front of lower 1 1/2 storeyed wing, roof dormer, tall axial
stack to left, tripartite sash to gable end. Rear of bays 1-3 in red brick,
curved stair turret to rear of bay 4 in header bond with leaded transomed
and mullioned stair window. 3 bay wing projecting east to left, 1st floor
an addition, sashes; 2 bay return to east, doorway to left, wide 3-light
window above with glazing bars under segmental brick arch with keystone.
Rear of 1 1/2 storey wing to east, 2 bays galletted Sandringham sandstone with
brick dressings, some brick fragments, door to left, large tripartite sash
with glazing bars under segmental arch with keystone to right, 1st floor
with flush sash of 2x3 panes to left, 3-light flush casement to right.
Interior: central passage behind bays 6-9 with series of semi-circular headed
arches; curved cantilevered staircase behind bay 4, open string with wreathed
oak handrail and cast iron balusters. Doors to rooms leftand right of south
doorway of 6 panels with panelled reveals, door to right curved; room to
right, with oval south end, curved door to dummy window of bay 9 of west
facade, 2 fluted Ionic columns with egg and dart echinus to north of room,
swags to entablature above; left and right rooms with moulded frieze. Closed
string dogleg staircase in pine with turned newel and ramped pine handrail
to east wing. Attached to east of east wing single storey red brick building
with pantiles, cast iron glazing bars to one window, mill leet flowing
beneath building.
